Is your fear, anxiety, or inner resistance guidance from your true self?
I have seen many people who want to do their inner work to reach a goal or to be able to do something they think they should be doing.
They may, for example, want to remove a behavior that keeps them from achieving their goals or the success they want in their lives.
Some coaches and teachers also promote their work by saying that they can help you remove your blocks or subconscious beliefs so that you can achieve your goals (or anything you want).
There is nothing wrong with that in itself, but I want to add a different perspective that is worth considering when you begin to work on yourself.
That perspective is: that the behavior you consider to be the problem may not be what is wrong. It may actually be what is right and healthy.
What do I mean by that?
Sometimes the thing we want is the problem. And the resistance toward it is guidance.
So, the thing you think you need to work on or heal (your fear, inner resistance, or even anxiety) may be your internal guidance system telling you not to do something that is not right for you. It may be your true self guiding you not to do it.
And the thing you are trying to do – the goal you are trying to achieve, the relationship you are trying to have, the career you want to have, may be the problem.
You may be trying to force yourself into doing something that is not right for you because a hidden belief or expectation makes you think that is what you should be doing.
It can be an old belief, a cultural expectation, or even a spiritual belief that makes you think that’s what you should do.
That’s why it is so important not to judge what you are experiencing but to meet it from a place of openness and willingness to really listen so that the truth has the space to reveal itself.
