Does the spiritual path have a goal?
Yes! Of course!
And it’s a wonderful destination.
I know that people often say that the path is the destination or that the path is what matters.
And yes, the path matters—a lot. What we do in each moment determines our quality of life and our future.
But there is a goal.
The spiritual path is leading somewhere. At least if we keep moving forward and don’t get too stuck in what’s happening on the way.
It’s leading to the awakened state of consciousness – self-realization, spiritual enlightenment, 5D consciousness, the new human consciousness.
This wonderful destination has many names – and the words I just used have slightly different meanings.
When I say self-realization, I am referring to an inner shift in consciousness that’s permanent.
And when I say 5D consciousness and the new human consciousness (or “Be who you are” – which is my term for that state of being because it’s an integration of your soul and human self), I am referring to taking it even further and living in that state – fully embodying it. So, it means living it in all areas of your life.
So, the goal is the awakened state of consciousness – and not just experiencing that state temporarily or having glimpses – but experiencing a permanent shift in consciousness to that state and then living it on a day-to-day basis.
Being who you are.
The goal and the path
The path is important, and it is crucial that we focus fully on each step we take because otherwise, we won’t get to the depth where we become free.
But if we want to awaken fully, it’s important to keep our eyes on the goal.
A clear goal keeps us focused on where we are going. It ensures we keep moving forward in that direction even when distractions show up.
It is also makes it easier to determine if something is worth spending time on. Or if it is a distraction that keeps us busy but doesn’t lead to where we want to go.
The spiritual genre is large today. There are many teachers, teachings, and practices. And so many experiences we could have.
And if we don’t have a clear goal or a destination where we are headed it is easy to feel overwhelmed or become distracted by all the (sometimes conflicting) advice.
It is also easy to move from practice to practice, book to book, and know all ABOUT the awakening without taking the time to focus and experience it on a deeper level.
So, we might keep spinning in circles, gathering more spiritual insights and wisdom, but becoming so overwhelmed that we never get the to the work necessary to embody that wisdom.
Gathering wisdom can be wonderful and necessary, but it can also become another distraction – a distraction from actually awakening – unless we go where it is pointing us.
If we lose sight of where we are going, we can also become stuck in fighting the alligators in the river (the darkness in ourselves or the world) to the extent that we forget that we are here to cross the river.
Or maybe we swim with the mermaids (focus on positive experiences and love and light) but don’t become free and integrated because our shadow is still there underneath those experiences, and we can’t cross the river without facing and integrating those aspects too.
So, it’s important to keep our eyes on the goal – and to start with the end in mind.
When we know where we are going, it is easier to find our path even if there are many distractions and obstacles on our way there.
Each step is important and deserves our full attention. But we also cross the river faster and easier if we remember that that is what we are doing.
